The coaching staff’s vision is that there can be no greater legacy for this program than creating an environment for young men to grow, mature and become better citizens through participation in athletic competition. They strive to build young men of character, demonstrate class and humility and bolster an atmosphere of hard work, effort and discipline that permeates throughout the program. Accepting the idea that, “you deserve to be a champion.”
Robert Edwards, Head Football Coach

Robert Edwards was named the Head Football Coach of Greene County High School in April 2012.

Coach Edwards was born in Tennille, Georgia, and attended Washington County High School, where he won 1 state championship in basketball his junior year under Dartez Talbolt.

His senior year he led both the football team and basketball team to the state championship in which they lost both. A former standout running back in the SEC, NFL and CFL, Coach Edwards was originally recruited as a cornerback at the University of Georgia, but converted to running back after his sophomore year. As a running back, he set UGA records including scoring five touchdowns in one game. Edwards was chosen by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft as the 18th overall pick. He rushed for 1,115 yards for the Patriots in his rookie season, before severely injuring his knee at an NFL rookie flag football game in Hawaii. Edwards barely escaped the injury without having his leg amputated below the knee, and he was told he might not walk again. After three years of rehab, Edwards returned to the NFL in 2002 with the Miami Dolphins, and was awarded the Pro Football Writers Association Halas Award for his comeback from his serious injury. In 2005, Edwards joined the Montreal Alouettes and rushed for over 1000 for two seasons and was named an All-Star both years. He officially retired from professional football in January of 2008. Prior to coaching in Greene County, Edwards was the varsity football coach at Arlington Christian School.Coach
